Kedah Sets Zakat Fitrah Rates At RM7 And RM14

Alor Setar: The Kedah State Zakat Board (LZNK), with the consent of the Kedah Sultan, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, has set two zakat fitrah rates at RM7 and RM14, as announced by its chairman Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these rates were established based on the grade and type of rice commonly consumed by Muslims in Kedah, measured at one Baghdad gantang, which is equivalent to 2.6kg. Norizan highlighted that individuals who typically consume local rice but have the financial means to contribute more are encouraged to pay the higher zakat fitrah rate.

Norizan, who also serves as the state secretary, stated that LZNK aims to collect RM14.5 million in zakat fitrah this year, an increase from RM13.31 million collected last year. He urged Muslims residing in the state to use online platforms for their zakat fitrah payments, including the website JomZakat at jom.zakatkedah.com.my, zakatfitrah.com.my, or the Zakat On Touch mobile app.

Additionally, payments can be made to 2,753 amil (zakat collectors) and 172 agencies appointed across the state, providing multiple convenient options for fulfilling zakat obligations.
