Kedah Government Addresses Littering Concerns at Dataran Medan Bandar

Alor Setar: The Kedah government expressed regret over the irresponsible behaviour of some visitors who failed to manage their waste properly, leaving the Dataran Medan Bandar area here littered, after breaking their fast.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman Major (Rtd) Mansor Zakaria stated that such an attitude should not become a norm, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Mansor emphasized the need for visitors to take responsibility for their waste, noting that while garbage bins are available, they are insufficient for the large number of visitors. He encouraged people to take their trash back instead of leaving it behind.

Mansor stressed the importance of collective effort in maintaining cleanliness in the area, especially as preparations for Visit Kedah Year (TMK) 2025 are underway. He urged visitors not to expect others to clean up after them and to work together to keep the area tidy.

The initiative to open the area for breaking the fast is part of efforts to celebrate Ramadan while supporting TMK 2025. Mansor highlighted that many had requested the space be used as a communal venue for breaking fast, and welcomed everyone to bring their families while maintaining cleanliness.

Additionally, Mansor mentioned he would discuss the littering issue with the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) to explore possible solutions to the problem.
