Bangi: The Home Ministry (KDN), through the Institute of Public Security of Malaysia (IPSOM), is developing a comprehensive governance and operational framework for the establishment of the Cyber Crime Fusion Centre (CCFC), which is expected to be operational next year. IPSOM Deputy Chief Executive SAC Dr Shazrin Azlin Ruslan stated that this initiative is a continuation of the National Cybercrime Threat Action Plan study conducted by IPSOM in collaboration with Cyber Security Academia Malaysia (CSAM) and local universities last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the local universities involved in the study were Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Dr Shazrin Azlin noted that this year's efforts focus on the development of the CCFC's governance and operational models, emphasizing its importance in the ongoing fight against cybercrime. She made these remarks during an appearance on Bernama Radio's Fokus 30 program.
Dr Shazrin Azlin highlighted that the development of the center would be a key topic at the 6th International Cyber Resilience Conference (CRC) 2026, which gathers cybersecurity experts from 43 countries in Bangi, Selangor. The study on the CCFC's establishment has identified 47 types of cyber-enabled crimes and 10 types of cyber-dependent crimes, according to the Home Ministry's perspective. Cyber-enabled crimes, she explained, extend beyond fraud and scams to include conventional crimes that have migrated to online platforms.
Meanwhile, CRC 2026 general chairman Prof Dr Ainuddin Wahid Abdul Wahab emphasized the conference's dual role as both an information-sharing platform and a forum for formulating strategic approaches to tackle complex and cross-border digital threats. He described CRC 2026 as a means to translate knowledge into action. The conference will feature 163 working papers that have undergone a rigorous screening process, and it will be officiated by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail tomorrow.
