KBS To Intensify Women’s Golf Development To Nurture More Talented Players

Kuala lumpur: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is intensifying efforts to develop women’s golf with the support of the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (MALGA), including preparing funds for organising golf clinics for students. Its minister, Hannah Yeoh, stated that this initiative is part of the continuous government efforts to ensure the growth of golf among women, aiming to nurture more players with high potential.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry has allocated funds to support MALGA in conducting clinics with students. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Subang National Golf Club, enabling Malaysian golfers who wish to compete and train to access facilities at a discounted rate.

Addressing the issue of reduced prize money for local tournaments following the COVID-19 pandemic, Hannah emphasized the reliance on private sector sponsorships and encouraged more government-linked companies to invest in sports. She highlighted the importance of corporate involvement, stating that without sponsors like Maybank, achievements in sports events could not be realized.

Hannah also expressed pride in the accomplishments of the five Malaysian women who participated in the 2025 Maybank Championship, particularly commending Mirabel Ting for her outstanding performance in her professional debut. The other Malaysian participants included Kelly Tan, Genevieve Ling, Ashley Lau, and Liyana Durisic.
