Kuala Lumpur:Negeri Sembilan: Four individuals, including three former Negeri Sembilan Undangs and the current Undang of Johol, have withdrawn their judicial review bid related to the removal of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the withdrawal was announced by their lawyer, Mohd Khairul Azam Aziz, during case management, stating that the matter had become academic after the Menteri Besar signed the relevant proclamation on August 3, 2026. The applicants included Datuk Mubarak Thahak, Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad, Datuk Muhammed Abdullah, and Datuk Abd Rahim Yasin.
The withdrawal was not contested by senior federal counsel Nurhafizza Azizan from the Attorney General's Chambers. However, lawyer Steven Thiru, representing Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) Negeri Sembilan and its secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, sought RM10,000 in costs from each applicant. This request for costs was supported by lawyers Robert Low and Jasmin Irisa Ahmad Mirza, representing other interveners.
The court approved the withdrawal without allowing for the case to be refiled but ordered the applicants to pay RM10,000 to each of the proposed interveners. Steven Thiru argued that the judicial review application filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court was an abuse of process, noting that the applicants failed to disclose ongoing proceedings in the Seremban High Court.
The judicial review was initially filed on July 17, 2026, against the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and the state government, seeking a mandamus order for a proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz and appoint Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Jaafar as the new ruler. The applicants requested that this order be executed within seven days of the court's decision.
