JPN Encourages Registration for Children with Disabilities to Access Government Assistance

Kampung gong tunga: Parents of children with special needs are being urged to ensure their children's births are registered, enabling them to obtain a MyKad or identity card and become eligible for government assistance initiatives. This call to action was emphasized by the National Registration Department (JPN) director-general, Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias, during a community programme.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Badrul Hisham highlighted JPN's dedication to helping eligible individuals acquire a MyKad through various community-friendly programmes, such as the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (MEKAR) initiative. He stressed the importance of birth registration for all children, regardless of their condition, to access government benefits.

He detailed JPN's ongoing efforts, revealing that as of December this year, the department had conducted 3,300 MEKAR programmes across the country, with 200 of them in Kelantan, processing nearly 100,000 applications. These programmes aim to reach both rural and urban communities in need of identification services.

During the MEKAR programme in Kampung Gong Tunga, Badrul Hisham personally delivered replacement MyKads to two siblings, Mohd Zaimi Mohd Noor and Mohd Zulkufli Mohd Noor, who have learning disabilities and faced challenges in reaching JPN offices. The siblings are part of a family with five children with disabilities, cared for by their father, Mohd Noor Mohd Zain.

Badrul Hisham expressed hope that the replacement MyKads would enable families to access additional assistance, easing their burdens. He also called for support from community leaders, non-governmental organisations, and the media to help JPN ensure all eligible citizens receive a MyKad.
