JPMorganChase Agrees to RM1.4 Billion Settlement with Malaysian Government Over 1MDB

Kuala lumpur: The government and JPMorganChase have reached a resolution in all matters concerning 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), with the American financial institution agreeing to pay RM1.4 billion (US$330 million) to Malaysia’s Assets Recovery Trust Account, the Finance Ministry (MoF) announced.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this settlement agreement addresses all current and potential claims, preventing both parties from pursuing any future claims or litigation related to 1MDB. The MoF emphasized that both parties will also retract all ongoing appeals associated with the lawsuit previously filed by 1MDB against J.P. Morgan (Switzerland) Ltd at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Earlier statements from the ministry highlighted that since the inception of the Asset Recovery Trust Account in December 2018, a total of RM29.7 billion has been recovered by the government in connection with 1MDB and its former subsidiary, SRC International Sdn Bhd. Of this amount, RM10.9 billion was recovered between 2022 and June 30, 2025.
