Johor bahru: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has instructed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to issue summonses to individuals found riding motorcycles without helmets during the Johor state election campaign, based on evidence from viral videos.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that this enforcement would apply to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign workers. Loke emphasized the consistency of his stance, recalling a similar issue during the Slim by-election campaign nearly six years ago. He stated that while there is no objection to riding motorcycles for campaign purposes, it is imperative that every rider wears a helmet to set a positive example for the public.
Loke reiterated that this principle is non-negotiable and applies to all, including PH candidates and campaign workers, as road safety laws do not recognize political parties. He stressed the importance of enforcing the law fairly and equally on all Malaysians, highlighting the recent viral incident involving a group of PH campaign workers, including those from the DAP, who were seen riding without helmets.
The minister concluded by affirming his commitment to uphold road safety laws without compromise.
