Johor bahru: Several major roads near nomination centres in the state will be closed or diverted in stages to facilitate nomination day for the 16th Johor state election tomorrow. Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that these measures are necessary to ensure safety and the smooth conduct of the nomination process.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, about 19 roads have been identified across Johor Bahru, Kulai, Batu Pahat, Muar, and Kluang that will experience disruptions during the nomination process. Specific roads include Jalan Utama Dato' Onn and Jalan Ayer Molek in Johor Bahru, Jalan Persiaran Indahpura 6 in Kulai, Jalan Omar in Batu Pahat, Jalan Arab and Jalan Petri in Muar, and Jalan Dato' Teoh Siew Khor and Jalan Sultan in Kluang. Detailed information regarding closure and diversion times will be announced periodically through the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) official channels.
Ab Rahaman highlighted that 22 locations in 17 state constituencies have been earmarked for thorough monitoring, based on security assessments and insights gained from past elections. These locations are mainly nomination centres expected to draw large crowds of supporters, as well as urban areas prone to heavy traffic.
To maintain security and order on nomination day, a total of 4,832 police personnel will be deployed. Their responsibilities will include managing traffic, monitoring public order, and enforcing the law. The public is advised to plan their journeys early, comply with instructions from authorities, and use alternative routes when necessary.
Ab Rahaman also urged political party supporters to behave maturely and orderly, adhere to the law, and avoid actions that could disrupt public order. He emphasized that cooperation from the public, party supporters, and road users is vital for ensuring the election process proceeds smoothly in a peaceful and democratic manner.
The Election Commission has set June 27 as nomination day, July 7 for early voting, and July 11 for polling day.
