Johor bahru: Johor police, through the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), issued 139,696 summonses for various offences up to Aug 31 following 2,527 enforcement operations statewide.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the summonses were issued during enforcement operations conducted by 13 District Police Headquarters (IPD) in the state, aiming to enhance road user safety.

He noted that during these operations, 981 arrests were made for traffic and criminal offences, while 4,197 vehicles were seized under existing legal provisions. The operations targeted traffic violations that pose a high risk of causing accidents, especially fatal ones. Offences such as running red lights, speeding, using mobile phones while driving, and overtaking on double lines were specifically addressed.

The enforcement efforts also focused on other offences including emergency lane misuse, queue jumping, offences involving motorcyclists, street thug activities, and driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the permitted limit.

Ab Rahaman emphasized that police will continue with targeted enforcement operations based on accident data, accident hotspots, high-risk times, and high-risk road user categories. He pointed out that the main goal of this enforcement is not merely to issue summonses, make arrests, or seize vehicles, but to prevent accidents by improving compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
