Gelang Patah:The Immigration Department has detained 177 foreign workers for various offenses at two factories in the Gelang Patah area during Ops Mahir.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation was a joint effort with the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and was conducted based on intelligence and public information. The raid occurred at an electronics factory and a metal engineering factory at 5 pm.
The individuals detained include 140 Myanmar nationals, consisting of 34 men and 106 women, 24 Bangladeshi men, four Indian men, and nine Nepalese women, all between the ages of 19 and 38. Some individuals attempted to flee during the inspection, but the enforcement team acted swiftly to prevent their escape.
Authorities conducted checks on the workers' travel documents, passes, and relevant permits to ensure compliance with legal requirements. The detainees are suspected of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963 and have been taken to the Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot for further investigation.
Additionally, three Malaysians, who served as human resource officers at the factories, were also detained during the operation.
