Johor Education Department to Aid Families and Friends of Drowning Victims

Pasir gudang: The Johor government has directed the state education department (JPNJ) to extend support to the families and friends of two boys who tragically drowned at a dam area along Jalan Murai 2, Taman Scientex, Pasir Gudang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali, the State Education and Information Committee chairman, stated that this initiative aims to address the welfare and emotional well-being of those affected by the incident. Psychosocial interventions, facilitated by the Guidance and Counselling Unit, are planned to assist students and school personnel impacted by the tragedy.

Dr. Muhammad Naqib emphasized the importance of parental vigilance concerning children's activities, especially in high-risk areas such as lakes, former mining pools, and dams. He expressed this caution in a Facebook post, urging parents and guardians to be aware of potential dangers.

The Pasir Gudang District Education Office is tasked with monitoring the situation through the schools attended by the victims, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kopok and SK Kota Puteri 4, Pasir Gudang. Dr. Muhammad Naqib also appealed to the public to refrain from speculation, respecting the victims' families and allowing for a thorough investigation.

The tragic event unfolded as firefighters located Mohammad Haikal Ramzi, 12, at 2.12 am, followed by Muhammad Adam Faris Arman, 11, 21 minutes later, at a depth of approximately two metres in the dam.
