Kuala lumpur: The Johor state government has declared tomorrow a public holiday across the state. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the special holiday, attributing it to the gratitude towards the people of Johor for fulfilling their civic responsibilities during the 16th state election held yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Onn Hafiz stated that the holiday was declared with the approval of His Royal Highness Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor. The announcement was made through a Facebook statement where he specified that Monday, July 13, 2026, would be a special holiday for the state.
The elections saw Barisan Nasional (BN) securing a significant victory by winning a two-thirds majority in the state polls, capturing 48 out of the 56 seats in the State Legislative Assembly. Alongside this political success, Onn Hafiz expressed his profound appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Tunku Mahkota Ismail for their consent and confidence in his reappointment as Johor Menteri Besar.
Onn Hafiz, who also serves as the Machap state assemblyman, reaffirmed his commitment to his duties, emphasizing the impact of his decisions on the lives of the people in Johor. He expressed his hope for divine guidance and strength to uphold justice, integrity, and sincerity in his responsibilities.
Furthermore, Onn Hafiz urged the people of Johor to pray for continued divine guidance and support in the state government's efforts to serve the populace. He expressed his desire for all responsibilities to be fulfilled with sincerity and for all decisions to be blessed with divine wisdom.
Earlier today, Onn Hafiz was officially sworn in as the Johor Menteri Besar in a ceremony presided over by Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
