Kuala pilah: The Negeri Sembilan Health Department (JKNNS) has detected four suspected cases of leptospirosis, or rat urine disease, at the Taman Eko Rimba Ulu Bendul recreational park in Kuala Pilah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JKNNS stated that one patient was admitted to the hospital while three others received outpatient treatment after exhibiting symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle pain. The affected individuals had a history of visiting and engaging in water activities at the recreational area, prompting the department to take clinical samples for confirmatory tests.
A risk assessment conducted by JKNNS found that the environment at the recreational park was conducive to the spread of leptospirosis. This zoonotic disease is caused by Leptospira bacteria, which can spread through contaminated water, soil, or food.
In response to the detected cases, the recreational area has been temporarily closed to facilitate cleaning, sanitation, and water quality monitoring as part of preventive and control measures.
JKNNS has also advised the public to avoid water recreational areas during the rainy season, maintain cleanliness, avoid swimming with open wounds, and practice good personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.
