JIP Brings Hope To Hundreds Caring For Ailing Family Members, Regardless Of Race Or Religion

Seri iskandar: What may seem like a small gesture has made a world of difference to Muhammad Suhaimi Rafa'at, with a hospital bed loaned by Pertubuhan Jalinan Insan Prihatin (JIP) making it easier for him to care for his ailing mother and giving him some much-needed breathing space. The 40-year-old vocalist of the band Sofea has been caring for his mother, Nadirah Shaharuddin, 79, for more than three years. She fractured her hip in a fall about two months ago and also has dementia. Her condition means he has to attend to almost all her daily needs, including bathing, changing her diapers, feeding her, and making sure she is never left alone, forcing him to put some of his career and personal commitments on hold.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, before they received the bed, it was very difficult for Muhammad Suhaimi to change his mother's diapers and bathe her, as she could barely move and often complained of pain from remaining in a lying position most of the time. He expressed relief upon receiving the bed, which made his mother more comfortable and eased his caregiving responsibilities. His income, which depends on stage performances, has been affected as he prioritizes his mother's comfort and well-being over his career.

Muhammad Suhaimi and his mother are among hundreds of families who have benefited from JIP, an organisation that lends various patient-care equipment to those genuinely in need. JIP's journey began with a personal experience of its founder, Muhammad Don Abdul Rahman, who realized the potential of lending equipment after his mother-in-law's passing. Starting with just one bed, the initiative has grown to 314 hospital beds and other equipment such as wheelchairs and oxygen concentrators, benefiting about 936 recipients to date.

JIP operates on a principle of helping those in need regardless of race, religion, age, or economic status. Muhammad Don initially funded the equipment himself, but as the initiative gained traction, more people contributed financially and in-kind to support the cause. The organization employs a conditional loan system where recipients must return the equipment once it is no longer needed, allowing JIP to assist more patients.

For individuals like M. Raja Kumar, the loaned hospital bed has been invaluable in caring for his bedridden wife, M. Pushpa. Despite undergoing dialysis himself, Raja Kumar continues to care for his wife at home. The bed ensures her comfort and eases the caregiving burden on him, highlighting the significant impact of JIP's initiative on families in need.
