Johor bahru: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz described the club's remarkable 109-match unbeaten run as the culmination of 12 years of sustained development, investment, and belief in its project. Munoz, who is in his second season with the Southern Tigers, said the achievement was not something that could be attained overnight, stressing that the club's transformation over the past 12 years had laid the foundation for its current success.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Spanish tactician said the club's investment in facilities and its long-term commitment had enabled JDT to reach the highest level and make history in football. Munoz expressed gratitude to the club's leadership for their vision and support, which have been pivotal in reaching this historic milestone. He remarked that the journey began over a decade ago when the club's management took steps to improve the club and develop sports in Johor.
Reflecting on JDT's recent 3-0 victory over Kuching City FC in the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup, Munoz acknowledged the challenges faced during the match. He noted that despite leading only 1-0 at halftime, the team managed to secure the win with two quick goals in the second half. Munoz highlighted Kuching City's strong defensive organization and noted areas where JDT could improve as they settle into their rhythm following the pre-season.
Munoz emphasized the importance of controlling key phases of the game, particularly in maintaining possession. He stressed the necessity for JDT to manage situations effectively, stating that the team's style relies heavily on ball control. Additionally, Munoz pointed out the significance of having four local players in the starting lineup, which he believes helps raise the standard of the Malaysian Football League while providing opportunities for young Malaysian talent.
Looking ahead, Munoz mentioned that JDT would focus on recovery before preparing for their next Super League matches against Kelantan and PDRM. Meanwhile, Kuching City head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak viewed the defeat as a valuable learning experience. Despite the loss, he expressed satisfaction with his players' performance in the high-intensity match against JDT, acknowledging the challenges posed by key players' unavailability and lack of match fitness.
Aidil Sharin noted that the team has reviewed their mistakes and will work on rectifying them, especially given the stadium renovation issues in Sarawak and the lack of high-intensity matches. He also mentioned the team's plans to focus on upcoming away fixtures against Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan, with an emphasis on strengthening their defense after utilizing three foreign players at the back in the first half against JDT.
