Kuala lumpur: Japanese contact lens manufacturer Menicon Co Ltd has inaugurated its manufacturing plant in Kulim, further cementing the strategic bilateral ties between Malaysia and Japan. Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin emphasized the significance of Japan as one of Malaysia's most crucial investment partners over the years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sim highlighted that Menicon's decision to establish its largest facility in Malaysia underscores the robust strategic relationship between the two nations. 'This project also shows Japan's level of trust in Malaysia's stability, employment potential, and industrial readiness,' Sim stated during the Menicon Malaysia Opening Ceremony at Kulim Hi-Tech Park, with his speech delivered by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) executive director Mohd Riduan Abdul Rahman.
The event was also attended by Kedah Human Resources, Chinese, Indian, Siamese and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Wong Chia Zhen, representing Kedah Menteri Besar. Sim further mentioned that the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, through MIDA and related agencies, is committed to supporting Menicon's future growth. 'I believe Menicon Malaysia will continue to grow as a major contributor to this country's medical ecosystem and as a valuable trading partner in Malaysia's economic transformation,' he added.
Additionally, Wong Chia Zhen noted the significance of Menicon's investment, exceeding RM1 billion, in the state of Kedah. 'In the long term, such investments would boost income value and improve the quality of life for the people in Kedah. Hence, the state government is committed to supporting high-quality investors like Menicon,' Wong stated.
