Kuala lumpur: Former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex today to face charges related to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH). The former Jerai Member of Parliament was seen entering the court premises at 7:40 am, wearing a white shirt and black suit.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the case against Jamil Khir is set for mention before Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad at 9:00 am. On September 10, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman mentioned that the commission had recommended three charges against Jamil Khir under Section 403 of the Penal Code for dishonest misappropriation of property.

Jamil Khir was released on bail on September 8 after being held in a seven-day remand starting September 2. Prior to his release, the former minister was reportedly detained at 4:30 pm on September 2 while he was at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to provide a statement for the investigation concerning the findings of the TH RCI report.

The TH RCI report, which became public on July 29, highlighted numerous management and operational weaknesses at TH from 2014 to 2020, identifying problematic investments that necessitated a forensic audit. The report also documented suspicious transactions and instances of information being concealed.
