Kuala Lumpur: The Community Communications Department (J-KOM) is enhancing its role in disseminating information on government policies through the Ih’ya Ramadan Berkat Musyawarah Malaysia MADANI Bekerja programme, which is being conducted across six zones nationwide. J-KOM director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop stated that the programme covers six zones: the northern zone in Alor Setar, Kedah; the central zone in Ipoh, Perak; the southern zone in Muar, Johor; the eastern zone in Temerloh, Pahang; as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, J-KOM is an agency under the Ministry of Communications, functioning as a socio-political body responsible for safeguarding, conveying, and explaining government policies to the people. Datuk Ismail Yusop emphasized that the liberalisation of information, with social media dominating and shaping public perception, necessitates an agency to provide accurate information to prevent manipulation.
He further noted that the spread of manipulated information within society has contributed to political instability in the country. J-KOM plays a crucial role in educating communities using three key approaches: loyalty, the development of Malaysia MADANI, and citizen engagement.
Datuk Ismail Yusop elaborated that as a sovereign and independent nation, determining the country’s direction is not solely the responsibility of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim but also that of the people through loyalty. The development of Malaysia MADANI involves the ‘MADANI Bekerja’ approach, where J-KOM engages with communities. The goal is to make MADANI a people-driven movement, recognizing that many citizens are in need of assistance.
