Kuala lumpur: Young national sprinter, Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira, breathed a sigh of relief when the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) are to proceed, thus rekindling her enthusiasm to make up for the disappointment of the previous edition.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 18-year-old athlete said SUKMA remains her main target this season, with the mission of chasing the title of sprint queen after only bringing home two silver medals in the 100m and 200m events at the Sarawak 2024 edition.
Izzatul expressed her relief that there are no delays, noting that even if the event is organized on a small scale, it remains a valuable platform for her and her peers this year. Her momentum and enthusiasm for the Games are still strong, she emphasized when contacted.
She reiterated that SUKMA remains her primary focus this season, aiming to make up for the disappointment of the last edition, where she missed the opportunity to win gold in two individual sprint events. She described the experience in Sarawak as a significant lesson and is now determined to return with more thorough preparations, not just to chase victory, but also to achieve her best career timings.
Izzatul expressed her desire to win the gold medals she missed in 2024, aiming to secure gold in all events she competes in. Additionally, she plans to record her best time this year and aims to break the SUKMA championship record in her events.
To prepare for SUKMA, Izzatul plans to participate in several tournaments, including the Malaysia Open, to realize her dreams. The 22nd edition of SUKMA is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24, featuring 474 events from 37 sports across nine districts involving 52 venues, with PARA SUKMA occurring from September 5 to 10.
