Jakarta: Ikatan Setiakawan Wartawan Malaysia-Indonesia (ISWAMI) Malaysia has congratulated Akhmad Munir on his election as chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the 2025-2030 term, and Atal S. Depari as chairman of PWI Central Honorary Council. ISWAMI Malaysia acting president Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman expressed confidence that Akhmad’s leadership would further strengthen unity and solidarity among PWI members.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, ISWAMI Malaysia hopes that media relations between Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to be enhanced in efforts to foster greater mutual understanding, as well as to build stronger narratives in addressing current and shared issues between both nations. Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman stated in a statement that the leadership of PWI under Akhmad, who is also the president director of Indonesia’s ANTARA News Agency, and Atal, is expected to elevate the role of journalism not only in Indonesia, but also at the regional and international levels.
ISWAMI Malaysia is committed to working with PWI to strengthen the dissemination of accurate news and information, and to foster a better understanding between Malaysians and Indonesians on various current issues. Media understanding between the two countries not only brings people closer but also contributes to strengthening strategic cooperation between the governments of Malaysia and Indonesia.
ISWAMI Malaysia also extended wishes for PWI’s continued success and blessings in leading the journalism world towards a brighter future. They also prayed for continued peace, prosperity, and harmony for both Indonesia and Malaysia. On Saturday, Indonesian media reported that Akhmad was elected as PWI chairman after securing 52 votes at the 2025 PWI Congress in Cikarang, West Java, while his contender, Hendry Ch. Bangun received 35 votes. At the same congress, Atal was elected as chairman of PWI Central Honorary Council with 44 votes, defeating Sihoni HT, who garnered 42 votes.
