Ismail Yusop Ends Tenure As J-KOM DG, Set To Take On New Role

Kuala lumpur: Department of Community Communications (J-KOM) Director-General Datuk Ismail Yusop has announced the end of his service after more than a year leading the department, saying he will soon take on a new assignment.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ismail, affectionately known as 'Tok Abah', shared his thoughts in a Facebook post, emphasizing that every journey in life has its moments of meeting and parting, and that every ending opens the door to a new beginning. He stated, "Today is my last day serving as the Director-General of J-KOM. Insya-Allah, I will carry out a new responsibility at a new place for religion, race, and country with the same spirit and determination."

Ismail, who previously served as the deputy director (training) at the National Civics Bureau (AKM), was appointed to the Director-General position on January 15 of the previous year. He filled the vacancy left by Dr Mohd Khairuddin Othman, whose service was terminated in September 2023. Mohd Khairuddin, also the Selangor PKR secretary, had been appointed J-KOM Director-General on March 1, 2023, replacing Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusof.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ismail expressed that leading J-KOM had been a meaningful experience, and he conveyed gratitude for the achievements recorded since January 2025 until the present. He remarked that any achievements were not the result of an individual effort but rather the spirit of teamwork, loyalty, and commitment of all J-KOM staff.

He extended his appreciation to all department staff, strategic partners, community leaders, and all parties who had placed their trust, support, and cooperation in him throughout his tenure. Ismail also sought forgiveness for any shortcomings during his service and conveyed his prayers for the best for everyone, thanking them for the memories, experiences, and friendships along the journey.

J-KOM plays a crucial role in ensuring government policies are effectively communicated at the community level. The department's functions have been refined to strengthen inter-ethnic relations through its programs and activities.
