Kuala terengganu: A public higher education institution (IPTA) student lost RM56,375 after falling victim to a love scam two months ago. Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor disclosed that the 22-year-old victim became acquainted with a woman through the Telegram application on May 11. However, the victim only knew the name displayed on the account and did not have the woman's phone number.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect claimed to work for an online marketing company based in Kuala Lumpur and subsequently requested to borrow money from the victim. The money was purportedly needed to make payments to the company. In addition, the suspect promised the victim an intimate relationship if he complied with the payment requests.

ACP Azli stated that the victim, convinced by the suspect's persuasion, proceeded to make 45 transactions from his bank account to an account provided by the suspect between May 11 and July 4. Realizing that he had been deceived, the victim lodged a police report yesterday. The authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
