Cheras:A comprehensive investigation is underway to evaluate the structural integrity of a block at the Damai Perdana Apartments in Bandar Damai Perdana after a landslide prompted the evacuation of approximately 80 residents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the inquiry is being conducted collaboratively by the Public Works Department (JKR), the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG), and the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj). Kajang Municipal Council Zone 6 councillor Tan Kah Hoe stated that these agencies are performing an initial investigation, but no findings have yet been reported.
Tan mentioned that technical reports from the involved agencies are expected soon and noted that the JMG is also examining claims that a leaking pipe may have triggered the landslide. As a safety measure, 45 units in Block D were evacuated, and a temporary evacuation center has been set up at the Desa Baiduri Community Hall for the affected residents.
The MPKj was alerted about the incident at 8 pm yesterday, leading to an immediate site visit by the council along with Balakong assemblyman Ong Chun Wei. To prevent further soil movement, the council has covered the affected slope with canvas.
Tan also highlighted that the area of the collapse falls under the jurisdiction of the apartment's Joint Management Body (JMB), which is consulting with its insurer to determine coverage under the current policy. The apartment complex, consisting of four blocks with 360 units, has had its water supply temporarily suspended, and water tankers are being provided for residents.
Resident Mohd Shah Adhar, 48, suggested the landslide was likely caused by a burst main pipe, which washed away soil leading to the hillside's collapse. Another resident, Muhammad Syakir Nabil Azman, 32, shared that he hurried home after his wife alerted him about the landslide and the subsequent evacuation orders. He plans to temporarily stay at his mother-in-law's residence in Taman Tun Perak.
Media reports yesterday confirmed the evacuation order for residents following the landslide, which is suspected to have been caused by an underground water leak.
