Penang:The PERDA Expo (EXPERT) 2026 is set to offer Penang Bumiputera entrepreneurs significant opportunities to expand their businesses internationally by welcoming participants from China, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr. Shaik Hussein Mydin, chairman of the Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA), emphasized that the international participation enhances the expo's value by allowing entrepreneurs to exchange experiences, build networks, and explore regional markets. This exposure is expected to help Penang Bumiputera entrepreneurs broaden their markets beyond the state.
The launch of EXPERT 2026 took place at Midtown PERDA, Kubang Menerong, and was officiated by Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including State Rural Development, Agrotechnology, Food Security and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Rashidi Zinol, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad, and PERDA general manager Datuk Mohd Asri Baharum.
Shaik Hussein noted that the expo aligns with PERDA's mission to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the Bumiputera community and bolster their role in Penang's economic development. This is achieved through entrepreneurship development programs, training, skills enhancement, and providing business facility assistance and grants.
EXPERT 2026 offers PERDA-assisted entrepreneurs the chance to engage directly with consumers and industry players, potentially leading to business matching, contracts, and strategic partnerships. Shaik Hussein encouraged entrepreneurs to expand their networks and adapt to market changes, rather than solely relying on local markets.
The expo aims for a target of RM2 million in sales and contract value during its three-day duration, featuring 250 exhibitors from various sectors. Expectations are high, with visitor numbers predicted to reach 75,000. Under the theme "Halal Synergy Empowering Entrepreneurs, Driving the Economy," the expo includes diverse clusters such as food and beverages, agriculture, automotive, and creative industries, alongside women-focused programs, family activities, and performances by local artists.
