Integrity-Driven, Technology-Based Asset Management Key To Bernama’s Competitiveness – Nur-ul Afida

Kuala lumpur: Efficient asset management with integrity and based on digital technology is a key driver of organisations' ability, particularly the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), to remain competitive and maintain stakeholders' trust. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin emphasized that assets can no longer be viewed merely as physical resources, but must instead be managed as strategic value drivers that directly contribute to organisational performance, productivity, and sustainability. She highlighted that efficient asset management enables organisations to optimise costs, minimise risks, and maximise returns through a comprehensive approach encompassing planning, procurement, utilisation, maintenance, and disposal. Nur-ul Afida stressed the need for disciplined, transparent, and accountable management of entrusted assets to prevent any leakage or negligence that could harm the organisation's reputation. She pointed out that inte grity is a fundamental pillar in maintaining stakeholders' trust, asserting that any compromise in compliance and leakages would directly impact the organisation's standing. She further elaborated that organisational assets are a trust and decisions regarding them must adhere to principles of good governance and compliance with established regulations. Meanwhile, she urged for the strengthening of technologies such as integrated systems, data analytics, and real-time monitoring in line with digitalisation efforts. Bernama is responding to the government's call for digital transformation through ICT infrastructure upgrades, including the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). Nur-ul Afida revealed that Bernama is actively transforming its asset management system to enhance maintenance, monitoring, and asset management across all its premises nationwide. This transformation involves assets at Wisma Bernama, state bureaus, and correspondent offices, valued at millions of ringgit. She expressed hope that the Movable Asset Management Enhancement Course would prepare appointed asset representatives for this transformation. She added that asset representatives need to be well-equipped with necessary knowledge and input to support systematic maintenance and inspection processes. Efficient asset management is vital not only for cost optimisation but also for minimising risks that could directly impact the organisation's performance and standing. Nur-ul Afida acknowledged the crucial role of asset representatives, who undertake additional responsibilities without financial incentives. She appreciated their commitment to ensuring assets remain in good condition, emphasizing that the responsibility of safeguarding assets involves all Bernama personnel. Earlier, a total of 35 Bernama asset representatives from the headquarters and bureaus attended the three-day course, which began on April 29 and concluded today.
