Jakarta:Trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) was temporarily paused for 30 minutes on Friday morning after the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) dropped by eight percent.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the IDX acting corporate secretary Valentina Simon stated that trading was halted at 8.58 am Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) time and resumed at 9.28 am, adhering to the regular trading schedule. The halt aimed to ensure orderly, fair, and efficient equity trading.
IDX trading regulations mandate a 30-minute pause when the benchmark index falls by more than eight percent within a single day. If losses exceed 15 percent, another 30-minute halt is applied, and trading may be suspended for the rest of the session or longer, subject to regulatory approval, if the decline surpasses 20 percent.
This incident followed a similar trading halt on January 28, when the IHSG also plunged eight percent during intraday trading. As of 11.29 am, the IHSG had decreased by 10.76 percent to reach 5,232.59.
