Kampung Pulau Duyong:The total allocation for aid to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) has increased to RM1.5 billion under Budget 2027, aiming to alleviate their financial burden amid rising living costs. This increase is expected to meet daily needs, ease caregiver burdens, and support efforts to enhance the quality of life for low-income PwD families.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulafizal Kamarudin, a father from Kampung Pulau Duyong, emphasized the significance of the increased care allowance for bedridden PwDs for his family, which includes three children with cerebral palsy. Zulafizal, a fisherman, highlighted the ongoing expenditure for specialized care needs such as special formula milk and disposable diapers. He noted that the increase from RM500 to RM600 per child monthly is a substantial help.
Salwa Mohd expressed gratitude for the increase in the Special Needs Students Allowance from RM150 to RM200 per month. She highlighted that this additional RM50 would assist in covering expenses for learning materials, transportation, and care for her child with a learning disability. Salwa emphasized the importance of this aid in easing financial burdens on families with children requiring special educational support.
Mohamad Asmizan, a civil servant with a physical disability, hopes the allocation will lead to improved PwD-friendly facilities at service premises, including banks. He pointed out that many premises lack suitable access routes, making it challenging for disabled users to navigate. Mohamad stressed the need for enhanced facilities to ensure inclusive access to public spaces for the disabled community.
Terengganu Physically Disabled Association chairman, Mohd Zuki Ismail, welcomed the government's decision to raise the income eligibility limit for the PwD Worker's Allowance from RM1,700 to RM2,000. This change allows more PwD individuals to benefit from the RM450 monthly allowance, easing their financial burdens. Mohd Zuki mentioned that the association has around 700 members who could benefit from this assistance.
