IMO 2026: Malaysia Makes History, Breaks Into World’s Top 20

Malaysia: Malaysia achieved a historic milestone by finishing among the top 20 countries at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026) in Shanghai, China. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced that Malaysia finished 19th overall among 117 participating countries, marking a significant improvement from the previous year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina Sidek expressed her pride in a congratulatory post on her official Facebook page, highlighting Malaysia's remarkable achievement of breaking into the world's top 20 for the first time. The Malaysian team secured a commendable 19th place at the IMO 2026 event.

The Malaysian team achieved an impressive haul of one gold, three silver, one bronze, and one Honourable Mention, scoring a total of 142 points. This performance surpassed last year's score of 139 points. Six talented students represented Malaysia in this prestigious event, held from July 10 to 21, as shared on the Olimpiad Matematik Malaysia Facebook page.
