Bukit bintang: An Immigration officer was injured while attempting to detain a foreign national during an enforcement operation at a nightclub in Bukit Bintang early this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Immigration Enforcement Division director Basri Othman stated that the operation, which commenced at 3.15 am, resulted in the officer suffering a suspected fracture to his left leg after being rammed by the suspect, who subsequently fled the scene. Basri explained that the suspect, in an attempt to escape the chaotic environment, aggressively struck the officer, causing him to fall down the stairway of the premises. The injured officer was transported to a hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Basri detailed that the operation engaged 85 officers and personnel, including 15 from the Special Tactical Team. During the operation, 98 individuals were inspected, leading to the detention of 48 foreign nationals for various immigration offences, such as overstaying and failing to produce valid identification documents.
The director noted that most of the nightclub patrons appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of inspection. The detained individuals included nationals from Myanmar, Thailand, and African countries. Additionally, two Nigerian men were apprehended on suspicion of working as disc jockeys while misusing student passes.
