Kuala lumpur: The Immigration Department will carry out an internal probe into compliance with standard operating procedures and safety measures governing the use of department vehicles following a fatal crash on Jalan Sultan Ismail here early today. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department would conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the department will provide full cooperation to the police to identify the cause and circumstances of the incident. 'The Immigration Department views this incident seriously and will take the necessary action based on the findings of the authorities and the department's internal investigation,' Zakaria said in a statement today.
Three members of a family died while another was injured after an Immigration Department Isuzu Black Maria lorry reportedly struck them on Jalan Sultan Ismail here at about 1 am. Zakaria also expressed his condolences and deepest sympathies to the family of the victims and wished the victim undergoing treatment a speedy recovery.
He appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist the authorities' investigation. 'Members of the public are also asked to respect the privacy and sensitivities of the family and refrain from circulating unverified images, recordings or information that could give rise to speculation and affect the investigation,' he added.
