Kelantan: The Immigration Department detained 13 foreigners in a special operation at the Kelantan border yesterday after they were found to have tried to enter the country illegally. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban announced that the operation commenced at 5.10 am and successfully intercepted individuals who have been blacklisted from entering Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation was based on public tipoffs and intelligence gathered by the department. The operations team first raided a location around the bus terminal, detaining eight Bangladeshi men, three Indonesian men, and an Indonesian woman. A subsequent raid on a nearby housing estate led to the detention of a Myanmar woman.
The individuals, aged between 22 and 55, are being held for further action under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. Additionally, four Bangladeshi passports, four Indonesian passports, and a Proton Preve were seized during the operation.
