Kuala lumpur: The Immigration Depot will not be utilized to house 113 refugees, which includes 110 Rohingya nationals, currently under the temporary supervision of the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters (IPK).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban emphasized that the Immigration Depot is designated exclusively for foreigners lacking valid travel or identification documents. He clarified that individuals holding a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card are permitted to stay in Malaysia on humanitarian grounds, albeit with respect to local laws.

Zakaria stated that the current 113 refugees cannot be accommodated at the Immigration Depot and remain under police supervision until their placement is finalized. He reiterated that while UNHCR cardholders receive permission to stay on humanitarian grounds, adherence to Malaysian laws and regulations remains imperative.

The authorities have yet to determine a new location for the resettlement of the refugees, who are temporarily housed at Dataran Wira, Kuala Lumpur IPK. Further instructions from the authorities are awaited regarding their placement.
