Ibrahim Esa Takes Helm As 25th BEM President

Kuala lumpur: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today presented Datuk Ibrahim Esa with the letter of appointment as the 25th president of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), effective July 1, 2026. Ibrahim will be responsible for chairing the BEM Board meetings, comprising 16 members appointed by the Works Minister.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, BEM is a federal statutory body established under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967, with an important role in regulating the engineering profession in Malaysia. The appointment reflects BEM's continued commitment to strengthening governance, integrity, and excellence in the engineering profession, while ensuring the Malaysian engineering industry remains sustainable and globally competitive.

BEM is responsible for the registration and regulation of engineering professionals, including engineers, engineering technologists, site inspectors, and engineering consulting companies. The statutory body also oversees compliance with professional conduct and engineering ethics to safeguard safety, well-being, and the public interest.

It also provides views and advice to the government and stakeholders on matters related to the development of engineering education, recognition of engineering programmes, and the advancement of the national engineering profession.
