Hyrax Oil Secures Exclusive Distribution Deal for Ergon Malaysia


Kuala lumpur: Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd, a prominent Malaysian producer of lubricants and transformer oils, has been named the sole distributor of ester-based transformer oils by Ergon Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a regional subsidiary of the U.S.-based specialty oil firm Ergon Inc.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, the partnership focuses on ester-based transformer oils, which are favored for their fire safety, biodegradability, and long-term reliability. Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin, Hyrax Oil Group’s executive chairman, expressed pride in the appointment as the exclusive distributor for Ergon’s HyVolt Synthetic Ester and HyVolt Natural Ester products in Malaysia, with future expansion plans into selected ASEAN and African markets.



Hazimah emphasized the company’s strategy, which is based on three core pillars: the proven performance of Ergon’s products, Hyrax Oil’s extensive distribution network spanning over 40 countries, and more than three decades of experience in the energy, utility, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sectors. By merging Ergon’s product excellence with Hyrax Oil’s market insights, the company aims to serve major clients such as Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Sarawak Energy Bhd, and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, as well as transformer manufacturers like Malaysia Transformer Manufacturer (MTM) Sdn Bhd and SGB MY Sdn Bhd.



She added that the partnership aligns with national ESG commitments and global sustainable development goals, striving to set new benchmarks for product excellence in Malaysia and beyond. The signing ceremony took place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), attended by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.



Ergon Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd’s vice president of sales – Asia, Juan Acosta, highlighted that the partnership extends beyond mere supply. It aims to support Malaysia’s energy transition, enhance local capabilities, and provide technical support. Acosta also noted the promising potential of the partnership beyond Malaysia, with opportunities for future collaborations in other regions, particularly in Africa where Hyrax Oil has an established presence, including a joint venture in South Africa.
