Housewife and Government Retiree Deceived Out of Over RM300,000 by Impersonators

Nilai: A housewife and a government retiree suffered a total loss of RM349,086 after being duped by scammers posing as police officers early this month. Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim stated that the 54-year-old woman lost about RM186,000, while the 66-year-old pensioner lost RM163,000.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, both victims lodged separate police reports on their losses at the Nilai Police Station yesterday. The reports revealed that the victims received a call from an unknown number, with the caller claiming to be a police officer. The caller alleged that the victims were suspects in a money laundering and drug trafficking case.

The victims were further informed that arrest warrants had been issued in their names, prompting them to make online money transfers to specified bank accounts. Following the instructions, the victims made a total of nine transactions amounting to RM349,086 into eight different bank accounts.

The police have initiated an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
