Kuala lumpur: The issue of houses of worship constructed without adhering to existing laws and regulations needs to be addressed based on facts and within the framework of the rule of law, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan stated. He emphasized the necessity of continuous monitoring to prevent public unease and maintain peace.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkifli expressed his full support for the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's decree on the matter. He highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law, ensuring good governance, and fostering harmony in Malaysia's multiracial society. Zulkifli underscored that every construction of a house of worship must undergo a lawful application process and receive approval from the relevant authorities, including local councils.
He further stressed the importance of adhering to proper procedures to prevent misunderstandings and to ensure that development does not disrupt public order and harmony. Zulkifli called on all parties to respect the law and comply with prescribed channels to preserve harmony and serve the common good.
Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin decreed that the issue of houses of worship built without approval must be halted and resolved. The Sultan supported the Federal Government's firm stance, communicated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, regarding the construction of houses of worship that do not comply with existing laws. The Sultan emphasized that all development should adhere to prevailing laws and be based on good governance principles.
Yesterday, during his address at the monthly assembly of the National Unity Ministry, the Prime Minister stated that the government would not permit any house of worship to be built illegally without compliance with regulations, to ensure public safety and national maturity in the future.
