Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today announced a Level 1 (caution category) hot weather status for 17 areas spanning Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. This alert comes as temperatures in these regions have soared, necessitating public awareness and caution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia's statement highlighted that 11 areas in Peninsular Malaysia are under this alert. These include Larut and Matang, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar, and Batang Padang in Perak; Kuala Krai in Kelantan; Kuantan, Raub, Temerloh, and Pekan in Pahang; as well as Hulu Selangor and Gombak in Selangor.

In Sabah, five areas have been identified under the same caution level: Telupid, Tenom, Sandakan, Pitas, and Beluran. Meanwhile, Marudi is the sole area in Sarawak affected by the hot weather status.

MetMalaysia has clarified that a Level 1 hot weather alert is activated when the maximum daily temperature in a specified area reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for a minimum of three consecutive days.
