Home-based Learning Plans for Schools During ASEAN Summit to be Announced

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is set to unveil a list of schools that will transition to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) during the upcoming ASEAN Summit, scheduled from May 26 to 27. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that the schools affected are primarily those near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the summit’s venue, or along major access routes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Fahmi stated that the MOE is in the process of identifying schools along key routes related to the summit. During this period, students will attend classes from home under the PdPR system, and the ministry will soon release the complete list of affected schools. This announcement was made during Fahmi’s weekly press conference, where he also encouraged private sector employers near the summit area to consider remote work arrangements for their staff.

Fahmi also noted that the Public Service Department (PSD) has issued a statement allowing civil servants who may face traffic disruptions during the summit to apply for Work From Home arrangements. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is expected to announce traffic management measures and main routes during the ASEAN Summit 2025, covering areas around Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang and other key locations such as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS) in Subang, Subang Air Force Base, KLCC, and hotels hosting summit delegates.

The ASEAN Summit 2025 is poised to offer Malaysia and ASEAN member states an opportunity to address various regional economic issues and enhance cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and China. Alongside the ASEAN Summit, Malaysia will also host the ASEAN-GCC Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit.

The 46th ASEAN Summit will convene leaders from the 10 member states to discuss regional issues, bolster economic cooperation, and promote inclusivity and sustainability. Malaysia, which assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship on January 1, 2025, from Laos, is hosting the summit for the fifth time. The theme for this year, Inclusion and Sustainability, underscores Malaysia’s commitment to fostering a cohesive and prosperous ASEAN.

In a related development, Fahmi reported that the Cabinet received a briefing from Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on the upcoming Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25), slated for May 20 to 24. With the theme Innovate Today, Thrive Tomorrow, LIMA’25 is anticipated to attract more visitors than previous editions, continuing its legacy as one of Southeast Asia’s premier maritime and aerospace exhibitions since 1991.
