Home Away Putra Heights Resident Mistakes Gas Pipeline Fire for CGI

Kuala Lumpur: A resident of Putra Heights, Siti Noor Lianna Misli, experienced disbelief and shock when a gas pipeline fire erupted less than 100 meters from her home, with flames reaching the height of a 20-story building. Initially, Siti Noor Lianna thought the fire was a computer-generated image (CGI) when her husband, Daeng Amir Hamzah, showed her a viral video of the incident while they were in Melaka for Aidilfitri celebrations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Siti Noor Lianna, 48, returned home to find significant damage. “Based on initial observations, the ceiling of my house has collapsed, the bathroom window is shattered, and my car is completely damaged due to the intense heat from the fire,” she said. Despite the property loss, she expressed concern over the emotional impact of the disaster and urged the government to expedite recovery assistance.

Siti Noor Lianna’s main worries now include the safety of her home and the need to temporarily relocate, as she continues to pay her housing loan. She has sought help from her mother-in-law to look after her children during this challenging time. Reflecting on the incident, she noted her past experience in the United Kingdom, where underground gas pipeline systems are safe if guidelines are followed and maintenance is properly conducted.

On Tuesday, Petronas confirmed that the fire occurred in a main pipeline owned by Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) at 8:10 am, creating a large crater at the site. Relief centers have been established for the 377 victims from 98 families affected by the incident, with no fatalities reported. The Ministry of Health stated that 31 individuals are receiving treatment at public hospitals, while another 33 are treated at private facilities.
