Hoe Yean Secures Double Gold at Malaysia Open Swimming Championships

Kuala Lumpur: National swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean achieved a remarkable feat by securing two gold medals at the 67th Malaysia Open Swimming Championships held at the National Aquatic Centre today. The 22-year-old swimmer delivered an outstanding performance, breaking a national record in the process.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hoe Yean clinched the gold medal in the 100 metres freestyle event, clocking a time of 50.00 seconds. This impressive timing was 0.46 seconds faster than the previous national record held by Welson Sim. The silver medal in the event was awarded to Penang swimmer Lim Yin Chuen, while Surasit Thongdeang from Thailand took home the bronze.

Building on his success in the freestyle event, Hoe Yean continued his winning streak by securing another gold in the 100 metres breaststroke event. He completed the race in 56.41 seconds, outperforming Selangor swimmer Daniel Williams, who claimed the silver medal, and Wei Hii Puong of Sarawak, who earned the bronze.

Reflecting on his victories, Hoe Yean shared that these events were not his primary focus but served as a warm-up for his preferred races, the 200 metres and 400 metres. He expressed satisfaction with the experience, especially after dedicating time to prepare for the Paris Olympics.
