Hillside Forest Fire: Public Urged To Avoid Open Burning – Exco

Selangor: The public has been reminded not to carry out open burning, especially during hot and dry weather conditions, as this can cause fires to spread easily and trigger larger fires.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin emphasized that such actions not only affect the environment but may also jeopardize public health and the safety of the local community. She urged the public to promptly report any open burning activities or fire incidents to the authorities to enable swift action.

Jamaliah stated that the state government is collaborating with relevant agencies to monitor the situation closely and ensure that preventive measures are reinforced. She highlighted the recent hillside forest fire in Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, which covered an area of approximately 37 acres.

A report from the state Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) indicated that firefighting operations had been ongoing since the previous evening, involving multiple fire stations, including Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala, and Subang Jaya. The fire was successfully extinguished in the early hours, with operations concluding at 3.48 am.

Fortunately, the fire did not result in any casualties or damage to building structures, and the affected area was outside the permanent forest reserve. Jamaliah expressed gratitude to the JBPM personnel for their efforts in controlling and extinguishing the fire, acknowledging their commitment and dedication in preventing the fire from spreading further.
