Healthy Lifestyle Encouraged for Artistes and Creative Workers, Says Dr Wan Azizah

Kuala lumpur: Practising a healthy lifestyle, including active participation in sports, is vital for physical and mental well-being, especially among artistes and creative industry workers who often face irregular work schedules, said Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. She emphasized that this group could also serve as positive role models for younger generations in embracing healthy living.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Wan Azizah expressed her desire to nurture a generation that is not only physically healthy, but also mentally sharp. She made these remarks at the Raya Karyawan Bersama Komuniti Sejahtera celebration, which was organized by the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency. The event was attended by notable figures including Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Azman Abidin and Malaysian Artistes Association (Karyawan) president Freddie Fernandez.

Freddie Fernandez raised concerns regarding the health of artistes, especially those with chronic illnesses. He advised fellow artistes to reduce sugar intake, avoid oily foods, and refrain from smoking, highlighting kidney problems caused by excessive sugar consumption. He assured that the association remains committed to championing the welfare of industry players, addressing issues related to royalties, payments, pension schemes, and insurance protection in collaboration with the government.

Freddie also noted the positive impact of the government's decision to abolish the entertainment tax on performances by local artistes in 2024, which he believes is a significant step towards supporting the local arts industry. He mentioned plans to develop young artistes through initiatives like an indie music festival scheduled for August.

The Raya Karyawan Bersama Komuniti Sejahtera celebration aimed to strengthen community ties during Aidilfitri while promoting social well-being and public health. The event also marked the launch of the Bandar Tun Razak Parliamentary Telehealth Kiosk, an initiative to expand access to healthcare services for the local community.

BIG CARING Group, the event sponsor, contributed RM20,000 to Karyawan in support of the welfare of artistes and the country's creative industry. Additionally, 140 Rahmah contribution boxes were distributed to those in need.
