Pantai Puteri: The Health Ministry (MoH) is nearing the conclusion of its discussions with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) concerning the consultation fees for private general practitioners (GPs).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that the revision of consultation fees under Schedule 7 of Act 586 was intended to coincide with the update of Schedule 13, which took effect in the first quarter of 2019. He mentioned that the current fee range of RM10 to RM35 is being reviewed based on data from DOSM, with an official announcement forthcoming.
Dzulkefly highlighted the backing and approval from the National Cost of Living Action Council (NACCOL) to address the revision of Schedule 7. He acknowledged the support and endorsement from NACCOL, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the Ministry of Finance, expressing confidence that a decision will be made soon.
In a related development, Dzulkefly noted that in November 2024, the government would mandate all private healthcare facilities to display medicine prices. This initiative aims to improve cost transparency in medical treatment.
