Haze: Two Areas In S’wak Record Very Unhealthy API Readings As At 4 pm

Kuala lumpur: Two monitoring stations in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 4 pm today, while 29 other areas nationwide registered unhealthy air quality.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the API readings at Sri Aman and the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) monitoring station reached 229 and 228, respectively. Areas recording unhealthy API levels included Sarikei in Sarawak (194), Sungai Petani in Kedah (161), Cheras in Kuala Lumpur (160), Minden in Penang (158), Taiping in Perak (158), Shah Alam in Selangor (157), Putrajaya (155), Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (151), and Segamat in Johor (132).

Meanwhile, 36 areas recorded moderate air quality, including Pegoh Ipoh in Perak (99), Banting in Selangor (95), Bukit Rambai in Melaka (92), Tangkak in Johor (90), Besut in Terengganu (88), Kota Bharu in Kelantan (87), and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (86).

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 signifies moderate conditions, 101 to 200 is considered unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and any reading above 300 is deemed hazardous. The API figures are updated hourly based on readings from 68 monitoring stations nationwide.
