Sabah: The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has advised vulnerable groups to avoid outdoor activities following unhealthy air quality recorded in several areas of the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Media and Communications Office of the Sabah Chief Minister's Department reported that as of 5 pm today, four areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings. Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest at 177, followed by Kimanis at 166, Keningau at 165, and Tawau at 153.

The committee specifically urged children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory issues to avoid strenuous and physically demanding activities. It also advised those who need to be outdoors to wear suitable face masks, drink sufficient water, and maintain personal hygiene after outdoor activities.

Individuals experiencing symptoms such as coughing, breathing difficulties, or chest pain are advised to seek treatment at the nearest health facility. The public is encouraged to ensure good ventilation indoors to reduce exposure to polluted air.

The JPBN also reminded the public to avoid open burning and to regularly monitor API readings, as well as the latest advisories from the Department of Environment (DOE) and health authorities.

The committee stated it would continue monitoring air quality throughout the state and urged the public to take precautionary measures to reduce health risks arising from exposure to polluted air.
