Kuala lumpur: Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament Hassan Abdul Karim has urged the MADANI Government not to rush into holding the 16th General Election (GE16), emphasizing the importance of completing its current mandate to allow its policies to deliver results. He advised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against hastily dissolving Parliament following PKR's performance in several recent state elections.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hassan, in a Facebook post titled 'DON'T CRY PKR, Dunia Belum Kiamat' (Don't Cry PKR, The World Has Not Ended), advised PKR to take time to assess the election results and reorganize its strategy ahead of GE16. He encouraged the party to take a break after the strenuous campaign efforts and to plan a well-thought-out strategy for the upcoming general election.
Hassan further urged Anwar Ibrahim to govern the country until the full mandate ends, which is expected by the end of 2027 or early 2028. He argued that completing the government's term would enable its economic policies to demonstrate tangible results and provide the populace an opportunity to witness their impact.
He expressed concern that holding GE16 prematurely could be swayed by sentiments following PKR's setbacks in Sabah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan, potentially affecting the party and Pakatan Harapan's (PH) prospects. Instead, Hassan recommended using the next 12 to 18 months to strengthen the economy, attract more foreign direct investment (FDI), and boost public confidence in the government's performance.
Hassan suggested that Parliament's dissolution should be contemplated only when the populace starts experiencing the benefits of the government's economic policies and observes the economy moving in a stronger direction. He also encouraged PKR members and supporters not to be disheartened by the recent election results but to continue preparing for GE16. He concluded by reminding them of their resilience and commitment to reform, stating, 'So, do not cry PKR. You are a reform party. We are fighters. We are brave enough to fight, brave enough to win, and brave enough to face defeat.'
