Greek AI Platform Receives First IEEE Child-Safety Certification

Accra:The IEEE Standards Association has awarded its first certification under the Responsible AI for Children (RAIC) programme to d-AI-logue, an educational platform developed by Greece's National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) 'Demokritos'. This platform, powered by artificial intelligence, utilizes the Socratic dialogue method, which is based on guided questions rather than direct answers to help students independently evaluate information.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mary Ellen Randall, the 2026 IEEE President and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI systems for children provide safe and supportive experiences. She noted that the programme offers a competitive edge to organizations by demonstrating that AI products, such as smart toys, online games, and educational tools, promote children's wellbeing.

The certification offers independent assurance to educators, schools, ministries, and parents in Greece that the platform has been rigorously evaluated for child use. This supports broader trust and adoption as d-AI-logue expands into classroom pilots and educational programmes.

The RAIC certification mandates the inclusion of privacy protections, age-appropriate content limits, and safeguards for children's rights, as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, from the development stage. Products are assessed by IEEE-accredited evaluators before certification, and certified entities must maintain compliance as their products evolve.

This initiative extends IEEE's CertifAIEd ethical AI programme and is built upon two IEEE standards IEEE 2089, which outlines requirements for age-appropriate digital services, and IEEE 7000, which provides guidance on ethical system design.
