Kuala lumpur: An elderly woman and her granddaughter lost their lives after the Perodua Axia they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed into a tree along Jalan Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang near Culvert 5 in Pasir Mas today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tragic incident occurred at 11.20 am. The 73-year-old woman, seated in the rear, died at the scene, while her 23-year-old granddaughter, who was seated in the front, succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Pasir Mas Hospital.

Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan stated that the car was being driven by another granddaughter of the deceased, an 18-year-old, who sustained a fractured wrist and internal injuries. She is currently receiving further treatment at the same hospital.

Mazlan added that the victims were three women from the same family travelling from Pasir Mas towards Rantau Panjang. The incident is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
