Kuala lumpur: Gradiant, a global leader in advanced water and wastewater solutions, has completed its work for a major new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dresden, strengthening Europe's capacity to produce technologies powering an increasingly digital and electrified world.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new facility represents an investment of approximately five billion euros, marking it as one of Germany's largest industrial projects and a significant expansion within Silicon Saxony, Europe's leading semiconductor cluster. The project aims to double the manufacturing capacity at the customer's Dresden site and is anticipated to create approximately 1,000 highly skilled jobs.

The facility is backed by approximately one billion euros in public funding programs, including the European Chips Act and the Important Project of Common European Interest. These investments are crucial for enhancing European semiconductor supply chains and improving the resilience of industries reliant on advanced chips.

Designed for production on 300-millimetre wafers, the facility will manufacture power semiconductors and analogue and mixed-signal technologies. These components are essential for a variety of applications, including artificial intelligence data centres, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, power grids, and industrial uses.

Gradiant's contribution involved supplying ultrapure water and water recovery systems tailored to meet the rigorous purity, reliability, and process consistency demands of advanced semiconductor fabrication. Their rinse-water recovery systems allow water from selected production processes to be captured and reused, promoting efficient resource use and supporting large-scale manufacturing operations' resilience.

In an effort to conserve valuable drinking water resources, the facility utilizes industrial water for operations. Internal recycling processes enable production water to be reused multiple times, with a target water recycling rate of up to 45 per cent by 2033.

Gradiant successfully completed its project scope three months ahead of schedule, demonstrating effective coordination among the company, the customer, and the wider project team. This achievement highlights Gradiant's capability to execute complex infrastructure projects within the semiconductor industry's demanding quality, safety, and scheduling standards.
